Hairston was an All-American for the Huskies in 1983-84, and the E.C. Coleman Most Valuable Player in 1982-83. He was the two-time leading scorer for the team with his highest total of points being 451 in 1983-84. Hairston has two of the top ten field goal percentages in a season with his highest percentage being 63.5% in 1982-83, which is the second highest in a season. He has the highest career field goal percentage at 61.6%.
