Ricky Bennett played two seasons at HBU (2003-05), tying for sixth all-time by averaging 18.8 points per game, ranking eighth with 349 assists, 15th with 124 steals and sixth with an 81.6 free throw percentage. He ranks fifth all-time in single-season points with 627 during the 2004-05 season, tied for second with 205 assists in 2003-04 and fourth with 77 steals that same year. Bennett scored at least 30 points four times, with a career-high 35 against Huston-Tillotson on Jan. 13, 2004. He was a two-time All-American, two-time Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Year and the RRAC Newcomer of the Year in 2003-04.
