Gaines was the first NCAA postseason qualifier for HBU since the 1980s, twice advancing to the regional round in the 100 meters. She won eight Great West Conference titles, including four indoor 60-meter golds and helped the Huskies to the 2013 GWC Indoor team title, the first in program history. Gaines set the school record in the 100 meters at 11.62 and 7.49 in the 60 meters in 2012, both of which still stand today. She ran on the record-setting 45.42 4x100-meter relay in 2010 and as a redshirt in 2011, qualified for the USA Indoor Championships in the 60 meters. All totaled, Gaines medaled 13 times at conference championships.
