Who is a "Representative of Athletic Interests?"
A representative of the institution's athletics interests or “booster” can be an individual, independent agency, corporate entity or other organization.

You are a Booster if:
  • You have ever made financial contributions to the athletic department or a specific team.
  • You ever played a role in promoting in HCU athletics, including participation.
  • You have assisted in providing benefits to enrolled student-athletes or their families.
  • You have assisted in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes.
  • You have ever been a Husky season ticket holder.

According to NCAA rules, once an individual has been identified as an institutional "representative of athletic interests" the individual IS A BOOSTER FOR LIFE!

Houston Christian University is ultimately responsible for the acts of all "representatives of athletic interests" in relation to NCAA rules and regulations.

Important Reminders for Recruiting:
  • Boosters CAN NOT be involved in the recruiting process. Only HCU staff members may recruit prospective student-athletes. Boosters may not contact a prospect in any way, be it in-person, online (including social media), on the phone or through the mail.
  • Boosters CAN NOT contact an enrolled student-athlete at another institution for the purpose of encouraging transfer to HCU and participation in our athletic program.
  • Boosters CAN NOT have any involvement with a prospect during an official or unofficial visit to the HCU campus.
  • Boosters CAN NOT provide benefits of any kind to prospects or their families.

Boosters MAY CONTINUE to maintain pre-existing relationships with neighbors and friends who have prospect age children as long as you do not encourage participation in HCU athletics.
  • Boosters MAY attend high school and junior college athletic events assuming no attempt is made to contact the prospect or his/her coaches.
  • Boosters MAY attend a public event (high school awards banquet) at which prospects are in attendance. No attempt should be made to recruit a prospect.
  • Boosters MAY discuss summer employment arrangements with a prospect AFTER he/she has signed a National Letter of Intent and those communications are run through the compliance office.

Important Reminders for Engaging with Current HCU Student-Athletes: Boosters must be aware of how they are allowed to interact with current Huskies and what activities could jeopardize their eligibility and the athletics programs generally.

Boosters CAN NOT:
  • Provide cash or loans in any amount.
  • Sign off or co-sign a note with an outside agency to arrange a loan.
  • Provide gifts of any kind (e.g. birthday) or free services (airline tickets, laundry, meals in restaurants).
