Hall of Honor Criteria
Student-Athletes
1. Earned All-America honors, or
2. Named Conference Player of the Year, or
3. Earned First-Team All-Conference honors, or
4. Did not make first team, but was a multiple-time all-conference selection, or
5. All-conference selection plus Academic All-America selection/multiple academic all-conference, or
6. Ranked among Top 10 in multiple career statistical categories, or
7. Had a significant career in sports at the professional level
Requirements:
1. Eligibility has been exhausted for five years or more
2. Simple majority of committee vote or point total threshold (see below)
Head Coaches
1. Won multiple conference championships, or
2. Multiple Conference Coach of the Year honors, or
3. All-time winningest coach at HCU in their sport (program in existence for minimum 20 seasons)
Requirements:
1. Eligible after 10 seasons from beginning of tenure at HCU
2. Simple majority of committee vote
Contributors
1. Outstanding recognition by a professional organization, or
2. Made a significant contribution to HCU Athletics for more than one sport, or
3. Served the athletic department for 15 years
Requirements:
1. Three letters of support from current or former HCU athletic staff members representing different areas of the
department
2. Two-thirds majority of committee vote
*Current selection committee members: Athletic Director, Deputy Athletic Director, Senior Woman Administrator, Associate & Assistant Athletic Directors (4), Director of Ticketing & Marketing, Director of Academics.
*Committee will always consist of at least one former HCU student-athlete. If one is not in a position listed above, one will be selected from the athletic department staff. If there are none on the staff, one will be appointed from outside the department at the committee’s discretion.
*There are no automatic selections; character will remain the paramount criteria for all nominees.
*Maximum of six inductees per year (teams count as one).
*Nominations will be made annually by head coaches or committee members; however, outside nominations will be taken into consideration by e-mailing the Athletic Director (smoniaci@hbu.edu).
*Merit weighted more heavily in descending order of above criteria.
Formal/printed ballot system: Student-athletes are ranked by each committee member (0 for no vote) after discussion and point threshold for induction is determined based on number of nominees and/or induction maximum. Head coaches and contributors will still be determined by a “Yes” or “No” vote, but still appear on the printed ballot.
