Football Tailgating & Parking Policy

The following standards have been developed and adopted by Houston Christian University (HCU) so that its students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests may enjoy their game day experience to the fullest. We anticipate your full cooperation in observing each of these outlined points, which are provided in the best interest of health and safety. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

IMPORTANT HIGHLIGHTS

"TAILGATING" in this policy is defined as parking and consuming food and beverages outside of the football stadium, on the campus of Houston Christian University. This policy refers specifically to tailgating at HCU home athletic contests.

1. Strict one car per parking spot policy due to the limited parking spaces.
2. Tailgate parties are to be private parties only and must adhere to Health Department rules and regulations.
3. Tailgate only in grassy medians or designated tailgate areas.
4. Tailgating may begin no earlier than four hours before game time. Tailgating may resume for no more than 60 minutes after the conclusion of the game.
5. Traffic flow prior to and following home games will be directed by University Police. Some entrances may be blocked and/or traffic may be diverted to ensure
traffic moves as swiftly and safely as possible. Entrance 2 at Sharpcrest will be closed on game days, opened to only departing traffic after the game.
6. Check with HCU Alumni Association for special tailgating area for HCU alumni and friends.
7. Tent tailgating is allowed in lots 3 and 4.
8. Lots 1a and 1b near Sharp Gym, 2, 6 and 10 will be for general spectators. RV parking is in lot 1c. They are first come, first served on the day of game.
9. No pets allowed, except for HBU mascot and service animals.
10. All drinks must be contained in unmarked, non-transparent plastic cups except bottled water.
11. No Tailgating in Lawrence Park.
12. No Tailgating on the HCU Soccer Fields (Sorrels Field and soccer practice field).
13. No food or drink will be allowed to be brought into the stadium.
14. No umbrellas are permitted in the stadium.

HCU STUDENTS

  • HCU students and their guests "TAILGATING" in the designated student tailgate locations are reminded that they must continue to follow all HCU student handbook policies.
  • Any violation of these policies may result in the immediate removal from and/or termination of tailgating privileges, criminal prosecution (i.e. citation or arrest), and/or disciplinary action through the HCU Student Life and University Police Offices.
  • HCU students and guests are subject to the remaining policies which are in force for the general public.

VIOLATIONS OF POLICY

  • Any violation of the tailgating policy may result in the immediate termination of tailgating and/or parking privileges, criminal prosecution (i.e. citation or arrest), and/or disciplinary action through the HCU Student Life office if the violator is a HCU student.

CONDUCT

  • Individuals participating in tailgating activities at HCU are expected to conduct themselves in a manner respectful of the nature and character of the University; including, following the directives of event management and public safety officials.
  • Please respect your neighbors and fellow fans. Public intoxication, fighting, sexual misconduct or lewdness, verbal confrontations with fellow fans or with the fans of the visiting team, will not be tolerated.
  • Tailgating hosts may be held responsible for the behavior and actions of guests in the permit area.
  • Persons acting in a disruptive, disrespectful or disorderly manner may be asked to leave the premises or be subject to citation or arrest.
  • As a private campus, HCU reserves the right to determine whether violations of the above are such as to warrant removal from the campus.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Parking is free.
  • A VIP Parking permit must be obtained and displayed in order to park in lot 5.
  • Roadways and parking/driving lanes cannot be blocked by parked vehicles at any time. Permitted vehicles must fit within the confines of the permitted spaces and may not extend into the driving lanes.
  • No pets allowed, except for HCU mascot and service animals.
  • All tailgating areas must be cleaned up entirely of trash before leaving the area. Trash must be placed in the proper receptacles. If litter is present at any tailgating site, the participants will be asked to clean up their area immediately, asked to leave the area, or receive a fine from the University Police Department.

AREAS

  1. Lots 1a and 1b (near Sharp Gym) are allocated for tent tailgating.
  2. Lot 1c will be designated for RV parking.
  3. Lots 2, 3, 4,6 and 10 will be for general spectators. They are first come, first served on the day of game.
  4. Lot 5 is VIP and you must have a specially issued pass from the Athletics Department.
  5. Lots 7, 8, and 9 (near dorms and the Baugh) is student parking only.
  6. No Tailgating in Lawrence Park.
  7. No Tailgating on the HCU Soccer Fields (Sorrels Field and soccer practice field).

DISABLED PARKING PERMITS

  • Parking in designated disabled/handicap spaces is free of charge in all lots and is available on a first come, first served basis.
  • Proper disabled parking permits issued by the State of Texas should be displayed and available for inspection according to HCU Parking and Traffic Regulations.

FOOD,BEVERAGES & MUSIC

  • "TAILGATING"activities are considered private parties.
  • Glass containers are prohibited in all parking/tailgating areas.
  • All drinks must be contained in unmarked, non-transparent plastic cups except bottled water or plastic soft drink containers.
  • All cooking devices, propane or otherwise, should be attended to at all times during cooking. Hot coals must be completely extinguished with water and, by city code, must be deposited in a metal container to prevent re-ignition. Also by city code anyone using a cooking device must have a fire extinguisher on hand. Fires built on the ground and open fire pit devices are prohibited.
  • Dispose of all trash in the appropriate receptacles located in tailgating areas or pack it out.
  • HCU is an alcohol free campus.
  • The parking lot tailgating areas are public spaces, shared by folks of varying tolerances and ages, so please be respectful of your neighbors and fellow fans; Do not play music with profane, suggestive or otherwise inappropriate lyrics. Music preferences and tolerable noise levels can vary greatly from one tailgate party to another, so keep speakers directed into your tailgate area at a reasonable volume.

REPORTING INCIDENTS

  • To report an incident, please find the nearest HCU Police Officer or call 281.649.3314. For emergencies call 281.649.3911.

SIGNS AND TENTS

  • Tents are allowed for tailgating; however
    • Must be placed in a grassy or designated tailgating area
      • There is a strict one car per parking spot policy due to limited parking spaces
  • Signs are allowed for tailgating identification purposes; however:
    • All tents and signage must be adequately weighted or otherwise secured for safety purposes.
    • No posts or stakes may be driven into the pavement or concrete.

VEHICLE TIMES

  • Parking opens no earlier than four hours prior to kickoff.
  • Tailgate areas must be dismantled no later than 60 minutes following the end of the game.
  • Overnight camping is prohibited on the entire HCU Campus.

STADIUM RULES

  • No food or drink will be allowed to be brought into the stadium.
  • No umbrellas are permitted in the stadium.
  • Ticket office will open 60 minutes prior to start of game.
