Gene Iba was the head men’s basketball coach at HBU from 1977-85, compiling a 128-96 record and leading the Huskies to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 1984. The Huskies went 24-7 overall during the 1983-84 season, claiming the Trans Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles, before falling to Alcorn State in the NCAA Tournament. Iba also led HBU to the TAAC regular-season title in 1980-81 and went 20-9, finishing second in the league, in 1982-83.
