Henning was a two-time All-American for the Huskies, and the Player of the Year in 1984. In 1982, he got second at the Angelo’s St. Thomas Collegiate Invitational shooting a 145 in two rounds, and also got second at the Broadwater Beach Collegiate Invitational shooting a 214 in three rounds. In 1983, Henning got first at the P.A.U. Golf Classic shooting a 209 in three rounds, and posted a 67 in the third round which was the lowest score for a round that year. In 1984, he got first at the Trans America Conference Tournament shooting a 214 in three rounds, and posted a 66 in the second round. He shot a career low and a Houston Baptist career low 64 in the first round at the P.A.U. Golf Classic in 1984.
