BSB: Louisiana Takes Two From HBU, 5-2 & 4-1

Jake Miller extends hit streak to six

LAFAYETTE, La. – HBU came up short twice against Louisiana, 5-2 and 4-1, in a non-conference baseball doubleheader Saturday afternoon at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
 
In the second game, Jake Miller went 2-for-2 and scored a run, while sophomore catcher Dawson Woods went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
 
Connor Kimple went 3-for-3 with a home run, a triple, three runs and an RBI for Louisiana (9-3). Carson Roccaforte was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
 
Senior Jacob Coats (0-2) allowed two runs on five hits with five strikeouts in six innings for HBU. Spencer Arrighetti (2-0) gave up on run on three hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings for Louisiana. Jac Schultz came on in the ninth for his second save of the season.
 
In the first game, senior centerfielder Chase Talbot went 1-for-3 and drove in a run, while senior catcher Matt Solomon went 1-for-3 with a double and scored.
 
Ben Fitzgerald went 3-for-4 with a home run, while Catalano went 2-for-3 with a solo shot and Roccaforte also added a solo homer.
 
Sophomore Tyler Zarella (0-2) took the loss for the Huskies, allowing five runs, four earned, on eight hits with four strikeouts in five innings, while sophomore righthander Blake Bolgiano shut the Ragin' Cajuns out on two hits and struck out three over the final three innings.
 
Hayde Durke earned the win for Louisiana, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits with six strikeouts and three walks in 6.2 innings. Bran Talley worked the final 2.1, allowing no hits and striking out two for the save.
 
Catalano's homer to left put Louisiana ahead, 3-0, in the fourth, but HBU answered back with Talbot's RBI single, then Soriano reached on an error allowing Trinidad to score to cut the deficit to one.
 
Roccaforte and Fitgerald each homered in the fifth for the final margin.
 
The series concludes with Sunday's finale at 1 p.m.
