He then went to second on a passed ball, Simon walked and senior second baseman Jack Fitzgerald was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Depreta-Johnson fouled out to the first baseman, then junior centerfielder Jonathan Ducoff laid down a squeeze bunt, Scott slid home, but was called out for the second out and was ejected from the game after arguing the call. With the count 1-1, pitcher Rafe Schindler hit Halloran with a pitch to put an end to the late-night marathon.

UNO got on the board first in the top of the fourth, when Bratton and Jay Robinson had back-to-back singles and Scott Crabtree walked to load the bases with one out. Devin Morrill lifted a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead, then Smart struck out Darren Willis to end the frame.
