Junior LF Jake Scott goes 3-for-5 with two doubles, three RBIs



HOUSTON – HBU batted around in the second and third innings, leading 10-0 after three, then cruised to a 14-3 victory over UT Rio Grande Valley in non-conference baseball Tuesday at Husky Field.
 
Junior catcher Erik Voller went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, drove in three and scored three times, while junior leftfielder Jake Scott went 3-for-5 with two doubles and also drove in three for the Huskies (12-17). Senior rightfielder Matt Heck was 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and scored four times and senior centerfielder Spencer Halloran was 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs and scored a run. Sophomore third baseman Elijah Simon went 3-for-5 with an RBI and scored twice, while junior designated hitter Grant Buck had two RBIs.
 
Junior righthander Hunter McClellan (1-1) earned his first win as a Husky, allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits with a strikeout and no walks in five innings. Four relievers held UTRGV to one run on one hit over the final four innings.
 
Austin Siener went 2-for-4 and scored a run for the Vaqueros (16-13), with Tyler Torres and Noah Lee each driving in a run.
 
UTRGV starter Trevelle Hill (3-2) took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits with a strikeout and two walks in two innings and the Vaqueros used six other pitchers out of the bullpen. The seven UTRGV pitchers combined to walk 13.
 
Scott got the Huskies on the board in the bottom of the first, delivering a two-out RBI double.
 
HBU then batted around in the second, with Simon and Heck coming through with RBI single, then Scott adding a two-run double for a 5-0 lead.
 
The Huskies then sent 11 to the plate in the third, scoring first on Halloran's sacrifice fly, then senior second baseman Jack Fitzgerald scoring on a wild pitch. Heck followed with an RBI triple, then Buck was walked with the bases loaded and Voller was hit by a pitch to extend the lead to 10-0.
 
The Vaqueros got on the board in the fourth with Siener singling to left and Elijah Alexander scoring on an error. Torres followed with a sacrifice fly to make the score 10-2.
 
HBU got the runs back in the bottom half, with Halloran ripping an opposite-field, solo shot to right and Buck drawing another bases-loaded walk.
 
The Huskies added a pair in the sixth on Voller's two-run blast to leftcenter, his first home run as a Husky.
