HOUSTON – HBU hosts Northeastern in a three-game series Friday through Sunday at Husky Field to open the 2019 baseball season. The Husky Sports Network video broadcast with

Head coach 
Jared Moon, the all-time winningest baseball coach in HBU history, enters his 14
th season at his alma mater 17 wins shy of 400 career victories. The Huskies return 10 letterwinners, including nine seniors, and welcome 21 newcomers. The pitching staff is led by returning senior starters 
Zach Carter and 
Brady Batten, senior closer 
JT Newton and veteran lefty 
Taylor Franzman. Senior righthander 
Daniel Endsley also returns after being granted a sixth year by the NCAA following Tommy John Surgery.
 
The lineup will largely be brand new, with only senior second baseman 
Derek Reilly, senior catcher 
Erik Voller and senior outfielder 
Anthony Jones seeing significant starting time last season. The Huskies will look from immediate contributions from several junior college transfers, including first baseman 
Johnny Gonzales, shortstop 
Nathan Soriano, third baseman

Ryne Edmondson, 
Chase Talbot and 
Brandon Bena, and catcher 
Matt Solomon.
 
The Huskies went 29-30 overall and 18-12 in the Southland Conference, finishing third for its highest finish since joining the league in 2014. For the second-straight year, HBU knocked off the No. 1 seed and advanced to championship Saturday at the Southland Conference Tournament.
 
Northeastern went 36-21 and 17-6 to win the Colonial Athletic Association regular-season title. Ace Sean Mellen, who went 10-3 with a 2.28 ERA last season, and Tyler Brown return to anchor the Huskies' pitching staff, along with closer Andrew Misiaszek, who recorded 12 saves. First baseman Jake Farrell is NU's leading returning hitter, posting a .342 batting average with 11 home runs, 16 doubles, eight triples and 63 RBIs in 2018.
 
HBU leads the all-time series against NU, 2-1, taking two-of-three in Houston in 2014.
