HOUSTON – HCU catcher
Luke Bard was selected in the 19
th round of the Major League Baseball draft on Sunday, becoming the program's first draft pick since 2023 when Morris Austin was selected in the 10
th round.
Bard, a Castle Rock, Colo. native, spent four seasons at HCU and batted .345 with 10 doubles, 27 runs scored, 22 RBI, two home runs and one triple in 39 games during his senior season. He played in 143 games while making 131 starts during his HCU career, finishing his time in Houston with nine home runs, 24 doubles, 78 runs scored, 66 RBI and a .266 career batting average.
Bard becomes the 12
th player in HCU baseball history to be selected in the MLB draft.
