HOUSTON – HBU could not conjure up any two-out magic, stranding 14 runners on base, in a 3-2 loss to Texas Southern in non-conference baseball Tuesday afternoon at Husky Field.

Anthony Jones went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored, while senior outfielder
Matt Heck went 2-for-4 and drove in a run for HBU (8-13). Junior catcher
Erik Voller tripled and scored a run, while junior designated hitter
Brady Batten went 2-for-4.

JT Newton (1-3) took the loss, allowing one run on one hit in the ninth. Senior starter
Marshall Herron allowed two unearned runs on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks in four innings, while senior righthander
Weston Smart held the Tigers scorelss over three innings.
Gaudencia Lucca went 2-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs for TSU (7-13), while Christian Sanchez went 2-for-5 and scored a run.
Jacob Gilbreath (1-0) tossed 3.2 shutout innings to earn the win for the Tigers. Starter Daniel Vasquez allowed an unearned run on seven hits with a strikeout and two walks in 4.1 innings.
Sanchez reached and went to second on a dropped fly ball in the first inning, then scored on Lucca's RBI single. In the second, Jose Camacho also reached on a dropped fly ball and later scored on a passed ball to put the Tigers ahead, 2-0.
HBU got on the board in the fifth when Heck ripped an RBI single to left. Voller tripled to lead off the sixth and scored on a suicide squeeze laid down by Jones to tie it up, 2-2.
Jose Cabreja was hit by a pitch with one out in the ninth and went to third on a groundout by Sanchez. Lucca then delivered a single to left to push across the go-ahead run.
The Huskies return to action when they hit the road to face Southeastern Louisiana in a three-game Southland Conference series Friday through Sunday in Hammond, Louisiana.
