Senior RF Matt Heck goes 2-for-3 with a HR for Huskies



HAMMOND, Louisiana – Southeastern Louisiana righthander Josh Green went eight strong innings as the Lions downed HBU, 4-1, in the Southland Conference series opener Friday night at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Senior rightfielder Matt Heck went 2-for-3 with a home run for the Huskies (8-14, 2-2 SLC), while senior shortstop Tyler Depreta-Johnson had the only other hit.

Junior righthander Zach Carter (0-3) turned in his fifth quality start in six outings, allowing four runs, only two earned, on six hits with three strikeouts and three walks in seven innings. Senior righthander Weston Smart tossed a perfect inning with two strikeouts.
Green (4-1) held HBU to one run on three hits with seven strikeouts and no walks, while Jared Biddy pitched a perfect ninth with two strikeouts for his first save of the season.

Drew Avans went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored for the Lions (17-8, 6-1), while Mike Taylor also went 2-for-4. Kyle Schimpf added a solo homer.

Schimpf got the scoring started with his solo shot in the third, then the Lions added two unearned runs in the fourth for a 3-0 lead.
Heck answered with an opposite-field solo blast in the fifth, his third of the year.

Avens came through with an RBI single in the seventh to cap the scoring.
