Senior RF Matt Heck goes 4-for-5 with two home runs, five RBIs



HAMMOND, Louisiana – HBU senior rightfielder Matt Heck went 4-for-5 with two home runs, five RBIs and scored three times as the Huskies throttled Southeastern Louisiana, 10-4, in the second game of the Southland Conference series Saturday afternoon at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Senior shortstop Tyler Depreta-Johnson and senior first baseman Carey Jones each went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, with Depreta-Johnson driving in two and Jones driving in one for the Huskies (9-14, 3-2 SLC). Senior leftfielder Spencer Halloran went 2-for-5 and scored twice and senior catcher Jake Pulcheon went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Junior second baseman Derek Reilly scored twice.

Senior lefthander Matthew McCollough (2-1) held the Lions hitless for 5.1 innnings, before running into trouble in the sixth. He allowed three runs on five hits with six strikeouts and no walks in 7.2 innings, with all three runs and all five hits coming in the sixth.
Drew Avans went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for SLU (17-9, 6-2), while Brennan Breaud also drove in a run.

Carlisle Koestler (4-1) was handed his first loss of the season, giving up five runs on five hits with walk in 3.1 innings. Jace Nini gave up a run in three innings, Bryce Tassin allowed three in one-third of an inning and Peyton Lee allowed one in 2.1 innings.

Heck started off the scoring with a monster two-run blast to left in the first inning, then belted another two-run shot to straight-away center in the fourth. Depreta-Johnson followed with an RBI single in the inning, then ripped a solo shot to leftcenter in the sixth to extend the Huskies' lead to 6-0.

After McCollough retired the first batter in the sixth, Trenon Trosclair beat out and infield single for the Lions' first hit of the game, then Cody Grosse and Breaud followed with singles to plate their first run. Avans then smacked a two-run double to the gap in leftcenter to cut HBU's lead in half, 6-3.

The Huskies answered with three of their own in the seventh on an RBI single by Heck and a two-run double by Pulcheon. Jones then added a solo shot in the eighth to make it 10-3.
