Box Score

ARLINGTON, Texas – Houston Baptist came from behind three times, including the ninth and twelfth innings, to clip Stephen F. Austin with its second walk-off win of the season, 6-5, Saturday afternoon in the UTA Hilton Invitational at Clay Gould Ballpark.

Senior rightfielder Kolby Arnst reached safely five times for the second-straight game, going 3-for-5 with a pair of walks, two RBIs and two runs, while senior leftfielder David Pfuntner went 3-for-6 with a pair of doubles and a run for the Huskies (2-3). Sophomore first baseman Bradley Brown went 3-for-6 with a double and three RBIs and has delivered the game-winning hit in both Husky victories. Sophomore designated hitter Garrett Tully went 2-for-3, and junior centefielder Jake Gonzalez doubled, drove in a run and also pitched 3.2 innings of relief.

"Hoelscher threw a great ballgame," HBU head coach Jared Moon said. "It was nice to see how hard we battled to stay in the game after making a couple of mistakes late. The hitters did a good job battling and executing with situational hitting. This was a good win for this young team."

Seven different Lumberjacks (1-5) collected their hits and five different players plated their runs, with shortstop Hunter Dozier delivering the only extra-base hit with a double. Designated hitter Jordon Lenaburg and centerfielder Rory Myers recorded an RBI apiece for SFA.

HBU freshman Tyler Hoelscher had another strong outing, but again took a no-decision, allowing four runs, only one earned, on three hits, striking out two and walking three in 8.1 innings. Gonzalez allowed one run on four hits and struck out three, while freshman Curtis Jones (1-1) started at shortstop, but pitched a perfect 13th, striking out one, for his first collegiate victory. Kevin Choated (0-1) was tagged with the loss for SFA, giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits and walking three in 1.1 innings. Colton Eubanks had a solid start for the Lumberjacks, surrendering two runs, one earned, on six hits and striking out three in seven innings.

Jarid Scarafiotti and Max Lamantia drew back-to-back, two-out walks and Myers delivered a single to stake the Lumberjacks to a 1-0 lead that would hold up until the sixth inning.

In the sixth, senior second baseman Collin Hetzler reached on a one-out error, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch and Arnst drew a walk. Brown plated the tying run with a bunt single, then the Huskies took the lead on Gonzalez's RBI double to left. Jones grounded out to third and Brown was thrown out at home on the play to end the inning.

Scarafiotti led off the ninth with single, and Lamantia reached on an error. Myers laid down a sacrifice bunt, but a throwing error by Gonzalez allowed the Lumberjacks to tie the game. Freddy Villalobos hit a grounder to third, but a fielding error allowed SFA to score two more unearned runs and take a 4-2 lead.

Sophomore Judson Bartlett drew a pinch-hit walk to lead off the bottom of the ninth, and Wiggins drew a one-out walk. Pfuntner struck out for the second out, but Hetzler followed with a single to right to load the bases. Arnst then delivered a two-run single to left as the Huskies tied the game, 4-4.

Zach Benson led off the 12th with a single to left, followed by a Dozier walk. Mann moved the runners over with a sacrifice bunt, then Lenaberg drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly.

The Huskies answered back in the bottom of the inning to once again extend the game, as Arnst reached on an error to lead off the frame and scored on Brown's double to left center. Gonzalez reached on bunt as the Lumberjacks decided to hold Brown at second, then Brown was thrown out at third on Jones's sacrifice bunt attempt. Freshman third baseman Josh Martinez walked to load the bases, but Gonzalez was thrown out in a rundown and senior catcher Corey Hail struck out to end the threat.

After Jones set down SFA in the top of the 13th, Pfuntner led off with a double and went to third on Hetzler's sacrifice bunt. Arnst was intentionally walked, and Brown laid squeezed in Pfuntner with a bunt to end the game.

The Huskies complete action at the Hilton Invitational against Missouri State Sunday at 11 a.m. Former HBU pitcher Chase Hernandez will broadcast the game live on HBUHuskies.com beginning at 10:45 a.m.
