BSB: La Tech Rallies Past HBU in Opener, 5-3

Junior LF Anthony Jones goes 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs

RUSTON, Louisiana – Louisiana Tech scored two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to claim a 5-3 victory over HBU in the non-conference series opener Friday night at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
 
Junior leftfielder Anthony Jones went 2-for-5 and scored twice for the Huskies (5-9), while senior third baseman Spencer Halloran went 2-for-5 and drove in a run. Junior centerfielder Jonathan Ducoff went 2-for-4 and scored a run and senior first baseman Jake Pulcheon and senior shortstop Tyler Depreta-Johnson each recorded an RBI.
 
Junior righthander Zach Carter took a no-decision, allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits with two strikeouts and two walks in six innings. Junior righthander Hunter McClellan (0-1) took the loss, giving up two runs on two hits in two-thirds of an inning, and senior righthander Weston Smart tossed 1.1 scoreless innings.
 
Logan Bailey went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and scored a run for the Bulldogs (10-5), while Parker Bates went 2-for-4 with a double and scored a run and Hunter Wells went 2-for-5.
 
Jones led off the game with a single, stole second and third, then scored on Pulcheon's two-out RBI single to give the Huskies an early lead.
 
Bailey knotted the score in the second with a solo homer to right off Carter.
 
Ducoff led off the fifth with a single, then Jones reached on an error to keep the inning alive. Depreta-Johnson and Halloran delivered with back-to-back, two-out, RBI singles to put HBU ahead, 3-1.
 
Bates led off the sixth with a double and Taylor Young walked. Mason Robison singled to right to drive in a run, then Young scored the tying run on a throwing error.
 
Tanner Huddleston singled, then back-to-back hit by pitches loaded the bases for La Tech in the seventh. Bailey came through with an RBI single, then Young's sacrifice fly gave the Bulldogs a 5-3 lead.
 
HBU loaded the bases in the eighth, but Bates' diving catch on junior catcher Erik Voller's line drive to center ended the threat.
