RUSTON, Louisiana – Louisiana Tech took advantage of a pair of HBU errors on the same play to escape with a 3-1 victory Saturday at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
Senior lefthander
Matthew McCollough (0-1) took the loss for the Huskies (5-10), allowing two runs, both unearned, on six hits, with two strikeouts and two walks in six innings. McCollough moved up to seventh on HBU's all-time strikeout list. Senior righthander
Matt Heck allowed a run in one inning of work and senior righty
Marshall Herron held the Bulldogs scoreless in one inning of work.
Junior outfielder
Anthony Jones went 2-for-4, while junior designated hitter
Tyler Clark hit a solo home run for HBU.
Lefthander Logan Robbins (3-0) went the distance for La Tech (11-5), allowing one run on four hits with six strikeouts and no walks on 107 pitches.
Hunter Wells went 2-for-5 and scored twice for the Bulldogs, while Dalton Skelton went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Tanner Huddleston went 2-for-4 and recorded the only RBI for La Tech.
Clark blasted a solo home run to rightfield to stake the Huskies to a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth.
In the bottom of the fifth, Wells singled with two outs. Skelton then blooped a single to rightcenter, junior centerfielder
Jonathan Ducoff's throw behind the runner at first sailed high, allowing Wells to score, then senior first baseman
Carey Jones' throw to third sailed into leftfield, allowing Skelton to score the go-ahead run.
Wells singled in the seventh and Huddleston delivered and RBI single to put the Bulldogs ahead, 3-1.
