HOUSTON - Following a 13-game road stretch, HBU finally returns home for its Southland Conference opening series against Nicholls this weekend at Husky Field. Friday's opener begins at 2 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. start Saturday and a 2 p.m. first pitch Sunday.
 
The Huskies (6-11, 0-0 SLC) are expected to send junior righthander Zach Carter (0-2, 2.16 ERA), senior lefthander Matthew McCollough (0-1, 3.86 ERA) and junior righthander Brady Batten (2-2, 3.63 ERA) to the hill. Junior JT Newton leads HBU with three saves, while senior Matt Heck has two wins and a save out of the bullpen.
 
Senior outfielder/third baseman Spencer Halloran is hitting .286 with four doubles, a home run, five RBIs and a team-leading 10 runs for the Huskies, while junior outfielder Jonathan Ducoff is hitting .271 with three doubles, a home run, two RBIs an six runs for the Huskies. Senior first baseman/catcher Jake Pulcheon leads HBU with 13 RBIs.
 
Nicholls (5-12, 1-2 SLC) plans to start lefthander Alex Ernestine (1-2, 8.00 ERA) and righthanders Cayden Hatcher (0-1, 3.47 ERA) and Jake Bedevian (0-3, 3.34 ERA.
 
Ethan Valdez is hitting .355 with four doubles, six RBIs and 11 runs to lead the Colonels offensively, while Brady Bell is hitting .349 with five doubles, seven RBIs and six runs. Gage Teer is hitting .322 with four doubles, 10 RBIs and nine runs and Joey Morales is hitting .310 with two doubles, a triple a home run, 10 RBIs and eight runs. Lee Clark is hitting .236 and leads the Colonels with 14 RBIs.
 
Following Friday's game, HBU and Nicholls will shave their heads to support Vs. Cancer, a pediatric brain tumor foundation the Huskies have chosen to support in honor of Ducoff, who is battling follicular lymphoma himself.
