Oral Roberts Holds Off Baseball

Senior LF Jordan McCoy runs hitting streak to 13 games in Huskies loss.



TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts staked itself to an early lead and it held up as the Golden Eagles claimed a 5-3 decision over HBU in Southland Conference baseball Friday night at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
 
Senior leftfielder Jordan McCoy went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs for the Huskies (16-19, 6-11 SLC) to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. Junior centerfielder Zach Nehrir was also, 3-for-4, and junior second baseman Josh Martinez was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Junior third baseman Curtis Jones went 2-for-5, stole a base, and scored a run, and senior shortstop CJ Jarvis was 2-for-5 with a double.
 
Tyler Boss went 3-for-3 with an RBI and  run, and Jose Trevino went 2-for-4 with a home run, an RBI and two runs for the Golden Eagles (21-17, 9-8). Audie Afenir wnet 3-for-4 and scored a run.
 
Jacob McDavid (1-0) earned the win for ORU, tossing 4.1 innings of two-hit, shutout ball and striking out five in relief for the Golden Eagles. Starter Gavin Glanz allowed three runs on 11 hits and struck out five in 4.2 innings.
 
Senior Ryan Lower (4-2) took the loss for the Huskies, fiving up four runs on seven hits, while sophomore Matthew McCollough held ORU to one run on four hits and struck out three in 5.2 innings of relief.
 
ORU scored a pair in the second and third innings to take a 4-0 lead, before HBU answered with a run in the four and two in the fifth to cut the deficit to 4-3. After the Golden Eagles got an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth, neither team scored over the last four innings.
 
The series concludes Saturday with a 2 p.m. first pitch.
