Biography

2017 (Graduate Student): McCollough did not see action in 2017 while recovering from Tommy John Surgery…granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA.
 
2016 (Senior): Made four starts, before missing the remainder of the season with an injury…went 2-0 with a 1.09 ERA, 21 strikeouts and two walks in 24.2 innings...started the season opener against Binghamton (2/19), earning the victory, while allowing two runs on seven hits with a career-high 11 strikeouts and no walks in six innings…threw three shutout innings, giving up two hits and striking out three against Washington State (2/26)…took a no-decision, allowing one run on 10 hits with four strikeouts and a walk in a 3-2, 13-inning loss at fourth-ranked Texas A&M (3/1)…gave up one unearned run on 11 hits with three strikeouts and a walk in 7.2 innings of a 4-1 victory over Utah (3/6)…was named Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week (3/8).
 
2015 (Junior): Earned All-Southland Conference Honorable Mention...made 15 starts, going 8-3 with a 2.87 ERA, 74 strikeouts, 18 walks and four complete games in 106.2 innings…pitched 7.2 innings, striking out six in a 6-4 loss to No. 13 Houston in the NCAA Houston Regional (5/29)…went the distance, allowing one unearned run and striking out six in the Huskies’ victory over Northwestern State to open the Southland Conference Tournament (5/20) – the first of an NCAA record four-straight complete games in a conference tournament format…also pitched a complete game in a win over Abilene Christian (4/3), allowing two runs and striking out four…held Iowa to one run on four hits with three strikeouts in a 5-1, complete game victory (3/15)…tossed his first complete game of the season and struck out a career-high 10 in a 2-1 victory at UT Arlington (2/21).
 
2014 (Sophomore): Made 13 appearances, including four starts...went 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA, 23 strikeouts and five walks in 37.1 innings…allowed three hits and struck out four in 3.1 innings or relief against Northeastern (2/21)…struck out a season-high five in three scoreless innings at Baylor (3/18)…threw five scoreless innings in his first start of the season to get the win at Texas Southern (3/25)…allowed one run on four hits and struck out three in 5.2 innings of relief for his longest outing of the year at Oral Roberts (4/18)…did not allow an earned run in his last five appearances, spanning eight innings.
 
2013 (Freshman): Made 16 appearances, including seven starts...last three appearances were as a starter…went 3-2 with a 3.02 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 53.2 innings…started the championship game of the Great West Conference Tournament and allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out four in six innings of the Huskies’ 13-3 victory over Northern Colorado (5/25)…did not allow an earned run and struck out a season-high seven in six innings to get a win at Chicago State (5/11)…started a 7-2 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (4/16), but received a no-decision, going 2.1 scoreless innings…earned his first career victory, holding Texas Southern (3/26) to one run on eight hits and striking out five in seven innings.
 
High School: Was a three-year letterwinner and two-year starter at Taylor High School for coach Corey Bowyer…went 8-2 with a 1.61 ERA, 110 strikeouts and 18 walks in 78.0 innings to earn District 19-5A Pitcher of the Year and the Mustang Award…as a junior, went 3-2 with one save, a 6.60 ERA and 26 strikeouts to earn second-team all-district honors…named Taylor’s sophomore boy of the year.
 
Personal: Full name is Matthew Paul McCollough…born Sept. 27, 1993, in Katy, Texas…son of Craig and DeAnna McCollough…has two sisters, Nicole and Michelle…majoring in accounting.
