VB: HBU Signs Three For 2020

Huskies add Arroyo, Manbeck, McKinney



HOUSTON – HBU volleyball has added three future Huskies during the early signing period, head coach Trent Herman announced Wednesday.
 
Sara Arroyo is a 5-10 outside hitter, who was a four-year letterwinner in high school. She played her senior season at Coronado High School in Henderson, Nevada, earning all-region first-team honors and claiming the MaxPreps/AVCA Player of the Week Award on Nov. 2. Arroyo played her first three seasons at Atrisco Heritage Academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was a three-time first-team all-district pick, all-metro first-team as a sophomore and junior and third team as a freshman and earned all-academic athlete honors three times. She earned the academic bronze medal as a freshman, the silver medal as a sophomore and gold medal as a junior. Arroyo was a member of the Student Council and was Student of the Year as a junior.
 
Makensy Manbeck is a 6-1 middle blocker from Friendswood, Texas, where she was a three-year letterwinner at Friendswood High School. For her career, she hit .391 with 834 kills, 216 blocks, 155 digs and 56 aces. Manbeck was the district and team offensive MVP, was named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State Team, the Texas Association of Volleyball Coaches All-State Team and the Texas Sports Writers Association All-State Team. She was first-team All-Galveston County, All-Vype second team and AGH second team. Manbeck was named a Houston Chronicle Girls Athlete of the Week and also earned academic all-district honors.
 
Madeline McKinney is a 5-6 libero/defensive specialist from Katy, Texas. She was a three-year letterwinner at Katy High School, serving as senior captain and the team's defensive MVP. McKinney led District 19-5A in digs, earning the district's Defensive MVP award and second-team all-district honors as a senior and honorable mention as a junior. She was also named to the Katy-Cy-Fair All-Tournament Team and recorded more than 1,000 digs and 100 aces for her career.
 
The trio joins an HBU squad that completed a 17-14 regular season and a sixth-place finish in the Southland Conference with a 9-7 mark. The Huskies face the No. 3 seed Northwestern State in the opening round of the Southland Conference Tournament Friday at 1:30 p.m.
