VB: Huskies Continue Homestand Against Nicholls

HCU looks to extend conference win streak on Saturday at Sharp Gym

HOUSTON — After a dominant sweep over McNeese to open their four-match homestand, the volleyball team is set to welcome Nicholls to Sharp Gym this Saturday at 1 p.m. as Southland Conference play continues.

The Huskies (8–8, 3–0 SLC) have been executing in conference play, stringing together three consecutive 3–0 wins and riding a wave of momentum as they push through the early stretch of league action. Behind strong home crowds and steady contributions across the lineup, HCU has turned defense and balance into its calling card, averaging nearly 15 digs per set and spreading the offensive load between Allana Archie (133 kills), Hannah Redrow (103), and Joya Euhus (95).

Nicholls (10–5, 0–2 SLC) enters the matchup still searching for its first conference win after falling to Incarnate Word in straight sets on Thursday. The Colonels lean heavily on outside hitter Tamara Chavez, who leads the team with 218 kills—more than double any of her teammates—and will be a key focus for HCU's blockers and back row. Nicholls is hitting .209 on the season while holding opponents to just .155, showcasing their ability to disrupt opposing attacks.

Houston Christian, meanwhile, has excelled at controlling the tempo at home. Setter Peyton Fadal continues to steer the offense with 407 assists on the year, while Bianca Byerly leads the defense with 179 digs and paces the Huskies' serving game with 20 aces.

Historically, Houston Christian has dominated the series, leading 14–1 all-time against Nicholls. The Huskies have won the last nine meetings between the two programs, including a 3–1 victory on Sept. 26, 2024, in Thibodaux. Saturday's contest will mark their first matchup of the 2025 campaign, with HCU aiming to extend its streak and remain perfect in league play.

The Huskies will look to keep their undefeated conference record intact before continuing their homestand next week against Texas A&M–Corpus Christi (Oct. 9) and UT Rio Grande Valley (Oct. 11).
