RUSTON, La. – The HCU volleyball squad opened the 2026 season on the road at the Jambalaya Jam against Little Rock, but came up short after earning a 2-1 lead following the third set.
The Trojans took an early lead, winning the first set 25-19. HCU battled back and won sets two and three, with scores of 25-19 and 25-23. After securing a lead, HCU fell in the fourth set 25-18, forcing a fifth set. In a closely contested fifth set, Little Rock ended the match, winning the set 17-15, and the match 3-2.
Offensively, the Huskies were led by
Katy Barger, who had 16 kills and 39 attacks, while senior
Sa'Myah Medford had 12 kills and 39 attacks. Newcomer
Ensilina Savelio led the match with 44 assists, while also contributing 18 digs, earning her first double-double as a Husky. Defensively,
Bianca Byerly led the Huskies with 26 digs.
Collectively, HCU recorded 59 kills, 51 assists, 82 digs, and seven blocks.
HCU returns to the Jambalaya Jam tomorrow, Aug. 29, for their second match against the host team, Louisiana Tech at 4 p.m.
