Ruston, La. - Houston Christian volleyball was back in Ruston today at the Jambalaya Jam, this time for a matchup against the hosting Bulldogs. After securing an early 2-0 set lead, the Huskies fell to a strong LA Tech rally that won the game in five sets.
In a very closely contested first set, both teams went back and forth scoring points. Finding themselves in an 18-18 tie, the Huskies rallied to put themselves up 23-20, ultimately allowing the Huskies to capitalize and take the first set 25-23. In the second set, HCU took an early 9-4 lead. Using the momentum, the Huskies fought off an LA Tech comeback to win the set 25-21. The third set was also closely contested, including multiple lead changes, though it ended with a 25-23 Bulldog win. With the Huskies up 5-2 early in the fourth set, LA Tech battled back in yet another back-and-forth set that went the distance, ending in a 30-28 Bulldog win, setting up a fifth set. Almost halfway through the fifth set, the Huskies earned a small 6-4 lead but came up short in fending off a final rally from LA Tech, sealing the match in a 3-2 victory for the Bulldogs.
Offensively, HCU was led by senior
Sa'Myah Medford, who put up 18 kills and 45 attacks, and junior
Katy Barger, with 16 kills and 50 attacks.
Ensilina Savelio accomplished another double-double, putting up 48 assists and 17 digs. On the defensive end,
Bianca Byerly led the Huskies with 27 digs, while also tacking on seven assists.
HCU will play its last game of the Jambalaya Jam tomorrow, Sunday, Aug. 30, against Iona at 11 am and will look to earn their first win of the 2026 season.
