HOUSTON – After a rough start to the 2026 campaign, losing all three matches at the Jambalaya Jam in five sets, HCU volleyball is looking for a bounce back effort at the Houston Invitational this weekend, facing Texas Southern, Abilene Christian, and UH.
HCU will face Texas Southern to start the weekend on Thursday, Sep. 3, at 6:30 p.m. The Tigers also look to earn their first win of the season and are led by senior Lauanna Pino and freshman standout Selana Morales. On Friday, Sep. 4, the Huskies will play a doubleheader, first against Abilene Christian at 12 pm, who has started the season 1-2, and are led by senior Aubrey Beaver. To close out the weekend, HCU faces Houston at 6:30 pm, who head into the weekend 1-1, and are led by Sydney Jones and Kalei Edson.
This season, the Huskies are led offensively by
Katy Barger and
Sa'Myah Medford, both with 44 and 42 kills thus far. On the defensive end,
Bianca Byerly and
Ensilina Savelio lead the Huskies with 64 and 49 digs, while Savelio has also added 131 assists.
HCU will be back on the road next weekend in Hattiesburg, Mississippi for the Southern Miss Invitational, where they will play Southern Miss on Thursday, Sep. 10, and both Jackson State and Southern University on Friday, Sep. 11.
