HOUSTON – HBU will try to get back on track as it hosts Sam Houston State in a three-game Southland Conference baseball series, the final homestand of the season for the Huskies, Friday through Sunday at Husky Field.
Saturday will be Senior Day, as HBU will honor its 13 seniors in a pregame ceremony.
The Huskies (22-24, 12-12 SLC) have lost seven-straight conference games and are now in seventh place. Senior centerfielder
Zach Nehrir leads HBU with a .342 batting average, seven doubles, five triples, four home runs and 38 RBIs, while senior catcher
Samm Wiggins is hitting .337 with 14 doubles, five home runs, 23 RBIs and 29 runs. Junior shortstop
Louie Payetta is hitting .313 with eight doubles, three home runs and 24 RBIs, while senior third baseman/pitcher
Curtis Jones is hitting .300 with five doubles and 14 RBIs.

Jake MacWilliam leads SHSU with a .365 batting average, five doubles, a home run and 14 RBIs, while Spence Rahm is hitting .307 with 10 doubles, six home runs and 32 RBIs. Hayden Simerly is hitting .287 with eight doubles, two triples, a home run and 26 RBIs for the Bearkats.
The Bearkats will send lefthanders Andrew Godail (3-5, 2.34 ERA) and Logan Boyd (5-4, 3.52 ERA) and righthander Sam Odom (4-4, 3.62) to the hill.
The Huskies have one conference series remaining, May 14-16, against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Chapman Field in Corpus Christi. The top eight teams advance to the Southland Conference Tournament May 20-23 at Constellation Field in Sugar Land.
