MIAMI – HBU used a balanced offensive attack and were solid defensively in a 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-20) sweep over Alabama in the FIU Classic Friday morning at US Century Bank Arena.

Kayla Armer had 32 assists, six digs and four kills. Junior outside hitter
Megan McStravick and junior middle blocker
Madeline Gaffney led HBU (4-2) with eight kills each. Junior outside hitter
Bailey Keith added seven kills for the Huskies. Junior defensive specialist
Haley Hoffman led the Huskies with 15 digs.
Andrea McQuaid led the Crimson Tide with 23 assists. Laura Steiner had 13 kills, while Krystal Rivers had nine kills. Kryssi Daniels led Alabama with 15 digs. Caitlin Bernardin had 14 digs.
HBU outdug Alabama 50-48, while the Crimson Tide outblocked the Huskies 5-2. The Huskies outhit the Crimson Tide .198-.185.
The Huskies led 12-11 in the first set, but the Crimson Tide scored four straight points to take a three point lead. HBU battled back to tie the score at 17, but Alabama scored four straight to lead 21-17. The Crimson Tide led 22-19, but HBU got back-to-back kills by Keith that led to four straight points to a 23-22 lead. After Alabama tied the set, HBU got a kill from McStravick and Alabama made an error as the Huskies scored the final point.
Alabama jumped out to a 12-9 lead in the second, but HBU came back to tie it 13-13. The Huskies took a one point lead, but Alabama took the lead at 22-21. The Huskies scored the last three points of the set to win 25-23.
In the third set, HBU took a 9-5 lead and held a comfortable lead for most of the set. The Huskies led by six on a couple of occasions, the last time at 19-13. Alabama battled back and got to within two at 21-19, but the Huskies went on to a 25-20 victory.
The Huskies face UNC-Welmington at 11:30 a.m. later today.
