HAMMOND, La. — Houston Christian Volleyball fell 3-0 (22-25, 20-25, 17-25) to Southeastern on Saturday afternoon at the University Center, closing out a three-match week on the road in Southland Conference play.
HCU (11-12, 6-4 SLC) opened the match strong, hitting .304 in the opening frame behind an early offensive rhythm from
Allana Archie and
Katy Barger. The first set remained close, with the Huskies pulling within two late before the Lions (16-6, 8-2 SLC) sealed it, 25-22.
In the second set, the Huskies stayed within striking distance throughout the frame, led by steady setting from
Peyton Fadal, who tallied 30 assists on the day. Archie continued to attack efficiently on the outside, while Barger and
Jade Smith combined for several key blocks at the net. Despite keeping the margin tight midway through, Southeastern capitalized on late errors to take the set, 25-20.
The Lions pulled away in the third with a .346 hitting percentage, their best of the match. Archie added several late kills, finishing with 13 on .280 hitting, while Barger contributed nine kills at a .467 clip and led HCU with four total blocks. The Huskies battled to keep pace but ultimately fell 25-17 to close out the match.
Fadal directed the HCU offense with 30 assists, while
Bianca Byerly anchored the back row with eight digs and added an ace.
Anna Melgren and
Savanna Stevens chipped in seven and six digs, respectively.
As a team, HCU totaled 35 kills, 32 digs, and five aces, while Southeastern finished with 39 kills and a .310 hitting percentage.
The Huskies return home to Sharp Gym on Thursday, Oct. 30, to host Texas A&M–Commerce at 6:30 p.m. in their next Southland Conference matchup.
