HOUSTON — Houston Christian volleyball earned its 11th win of the year Tuesday night, defeating New Orleans 3–1 (25–20, 19–25, 25–15, 25–23) inside Sharp Gym to improve to 6–3 in Southland Conference play.
The Huskies started strong, hitting .344 in the opening frame and closing the set with a late surge powered by
Allana Archie and
Jade Smith. After dropping the second, HCU regained control in the third with its most dominant stretch of the night limiting the Privateers to just seven kills and a .000 hitting percentage. The fourth set featured multiple lead changes, but HCU's depth proved decisive down the stretch to secure the home victory.
Archie led the Huskies with 16 kills on a .419 clip, while
Katy Barger followed closely with 15 kills and 15 total points.
Taylor Bonner-Williams added 13 kills and two blocks, and Smith tallied nine kills and three total blocks. Setter
Peyton Fadal distributed the offense efficiently with a season-high 54 assists and added 11 digs for a double-double.
Defensively, libero
Bianca Byerly anchored the back row with 17 digs, while
Kennedy Schramm and Fadal each contributed 11.
Anna Melgren provided a spark from the service line with three aces, including back-to-back points late in the opening set that shifted momentum in HCU's favor.
As a team, HCU posted 68 kills to UNO's 41 and held a .242 hitting percentage. The Huskies also finished with 66 digs and 61 assists, maintaining control through balanced team play.
HCU will be back on the court on Saturday, Oct. 25, when the Huskies travel to Hammond, La. to face the Southeastern Lady Lions at 12:00 p.m.
