HOUSTON – The Volleyball team continues its conference slate on Saturday with a noon matchup at Southeastern in Hammond, Louisiana. The Huskies enter the weekend tied for fourth in the Southland Conference standings and look to secure a pivotal road win as the postseason race intensifies.
HCU (11-11, 6-3 SLC) is coming off a 3–1 victory over New Orleans that evened its overall record and kept the Huskies in striking distance of the conference's top three. Under head coach
Trent Herman, HCU has steadily improved both offensively and defensively, averaging 13.0 kills per set while holding opponents to 12.6.
Senior middle blocker
Allana Archie continues to anchor the attack with 214 kills on a .270 hitting percentage, ranking among the conference's most consistent scorers.
Joya Euhus and
Hannah Redrow have added balance to the front line with 159 and 147 kills, respectively, while
Taylor Bonner-Williams and
Katy Barger round out a deep offensive rotation.
Running the offense is setter
Peyton Fadal, who has recorded 665 assists on the year and averages nearly 12 assists per set in conference play. Defensively,
Bianca Byerly has been a steady presence in the back row, leading the Huskies with 258 digs and 29 service aces, followed by
Anna Melgren with 193 digs and 17 aces.
At the net, HCU's blocking unit remains a key strength. Archie leads the team with 52.0 total blocks, while Euhus and Redrow have each contributed 31.0. The Huskies have also limited opponents to a .221 hitting percentage, improving their defensive consistency as the season progresses.
Southeastern (15-6, 7-2 SLC) enters the weekend ranked third in the SLC standings and boasts an 8–0 record at home. The Lions have won two straight matches, led by outside hitter Gracie Campbell, who has posted an impressive 275 kills on the season—one of the highest totals in the conference. Jade Washington headlines the backcourt with 426 digs, while Nevaeh Smith anchors the defense at the net with 48.0 blocks.
The matchup will feature one of the conference's most balanced defensive teams in Southeastern against an HCU squad known for its offensive depth and serving pressure. The Huskies will look to extend their win streak and hand the Lions their first home loss of the year.
Following Saturday's contest, HCU will return to Sharp Gym to host East Texas A&M on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 6:30 p.m. in another Southland Conference matchup.
