Volleyball Sweeps Louisiana 3-0

Junior outside hitter Megan McStravick had 13 kills against Louisiana in the Houston Marriott Westchase Classic.
Box Score HOUSTON – HBU junior outside hitter Megan McStravick had 13 kills and eight digs to lead the Huskies to a 3-0 (27-25, 25-18, 25-19) victory over Louisiana Saturday morning at the Houston Marriott Westchase Classic in Sharp Gym.

Junior middle blocker Madeline Gaffney had nine kills, while junior outside hitter Bailey Keith also added nine kills. Freshman setter Kayla Armer had 41 assists and 11 digs. Sophomore libero Haley Mueller led HBU (1-1) with 16 digs. Senior middle blocker Caiti Wenger and freshman outside hitter Jessica Wooten both added eight kills for the Huskies.

Lavinia Tataran led the Ragin' Cajuns with 13 kills. Andrea Hole led Louisiana with 32 assists, while also adding nine digs. Caitlyn Auxilien had 15 digs, while Sara Mossakowski had eight kills and 10 digs.

HBU hit .308 and held Louisiana to .161. The Huskies outdug the Ragin' Cajuns 60-50.

In the first set, Louisiana jumped out to a 14-10 lead, but the Huskies got two kills from Wenger and a kill from Wooten to cut their deficit to one. HBU trailed 17-15, but scored three straight points to take a one point lead. Louisiana answered with three points to go back up by two, but the Huskies tied the set 21-21. The Huskies fought off a set point with a kill by Wooten and took the lead on a solo block by Armer at 25-24. After Louisiana tied it again, HBU took the set on kills by Gaffney and Armer.

HBU took an 11-8 lead in the second set on an ace by Armer, but Louisiana scored the next three points to tie. With the score tied 13-13, McStravick had two kills as the Huskies scored four straight points and eight of the next 10 to take control of the set. HBU went on to 25-18 win.

HBU scored the first three points of the third and never trailed during the set. The Huskies led 11-9, then scored five straight points. Wenger and Keith helped put away the match with a pair of kills each down the stretch to close out 25-19 decision.

The tournament continues with UT Pan American facing Nebraska-Omaha at noon, followed by Louisiana and Nebraska-Omaha at 5:00 p.m. HBU faces UT Pan American to conclude the tournament tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Sharp Gym.
