Volleyball Battles Past Abilene Christian 3-2

Freshman outside hitter Jessica Wooten recorded a double-double in Thursday's victory match against Abiliene Christian.

HOUSTON – Freshman outside hitter Jessica Wooten had 16 kills and 18 digs, while junior outside hitter Bailey Keith had 11 kills and 14 digs to help the Huskies win a hard-fought battle against Abilene Christian 3-2 (25-23, 27-29, 21-25, 25-15,15-13) Thursday night in Sharp Gym.

Senior middle blocker Caiti Wenger also led the Huskies with 16 kills. Junior middle blocker Madeline Gaffney helped out HBU (7-10, 2-3 SLC) with 12 kills. Freshman setter Kayla Armer had 49 assists for the Huskies. Freshman defensive specialist Beth Shecterle had 13 digs for HBU, while sophomore defensive specialist Haley Mueller had 12 digs. Junior libero Haley Hoffman led the Huskies with 22 digs.

Jennifer Loerch led the Wildcats with 20 kills. Sarah Siemens had 44 assists for Abilene Christian. Madison Hoover had a match-high of 23 digs, while Loerch contributed with 18 digs. Siemens also had 15 digs for the Wildcats. Caley Johnson Madelyn Robinett both had 11 digs for Abilene Christian.

The Huskies outhit the Wildcats 61-55. HBU also outdug ACU 91 digs to 89. Abilene Christian outblocked HBU 19-13.5.

The Huskies return to action Saturday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. against Incarnate Word in Sharp Gym.
