HOUSTON – With four matches remaining in the regular season and three at home, HBU women's soccer will look to make a move up the Southland Conference standings when they host Nicholls State Friday at 7 pm and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Sunday at 1 pm.
The one and only time the Huskies and Colonels met was back in 2009, as HBU defeated Nicholls, 3-0, in Houston.
Cindy Hedden, Mychael Morris, and Isla Cameron each scored for the Huskies. Current HBU manager, Gabby Trujillo, recorded an assist on the game winner. Sunday's meeting will mark the first-ever matchup between the Huskies and Islanders.
HBU (4-10-1 overall, 3-5-0 SLC) lost 3-0 to visiting Oral Roberts on Friday, then lost a tough 1-0 decision to Central Arkansas two days later. Junior goalkeeper
Patty Walrath tied a career high with nine saves against UCA.
Rebekah Tovar leads the Huskies with eight points, as she and
Molly Missimer are tied for the team lead with three goals apiece. Tovar and
Natalie Hager each have two assists.
Walrath has seen the bulk of the action in goal lately and is 3-4-0 with a 1.13 goals-against average, a .840 save percentage, and two shutouts.
Nicholls State (10-5-1, 4-5-0 SLC) lost twice last weekend and has now dropped five of its last six matches. The Colonels lost 3-0 to Northwestern State and 4-1 to SFA.
Spencer Valdespino leads Nicholls with 12 goals and 29 points. She is tied for 15th in the nation in goals and tied for 22nd in points.
Nicholls has used four keepers, who have a combined 1.58 GAA.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (2-12-0, 1-7-0 SLC) recently lost 2-1 at Abilene Christian Friday night. The Islanders are in their inaugural season in women's soccer.
Yvette Franco leads the Islanders with eight goals and 19 points, while tied with Meghan Cordero for the team lead of three assists.
Audrey Baldwin is 2-12-0 with a 2.22 GAA, a .710 save percentage, and one shutout.
