Postgame Interview with Josh Foust
HOUSTON – Houston Baptist junior second baseman
Josh Foust went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs as the Huskies pounded out 11 hits to down Prairie View A&M, 10-5, Wednesday at Husky Field.
Sophomore first baseman Bradley Brown went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored a pair of runs, while senior leftfielder
David Pfuntner went 2-for-3 and scored twice for the Huskies (6-14). Senior rightfielder
Kolby Arnst tripled, drove in two runs and scored two runs, while freshman third baseman Curtis Jones doubled, walked twice, drove in a run and scored once.
Robert Cossey went 2-for-4 and scored a run, while Dominiq Harris went 2-for-4 with a double and drove in two runs for the Panthers (11-9). Andre Oliver doubled, drove in a runs and scored one, while Brandon Brooks and Brad Benes also doubled.
Senior righthander
Dalton Schafer (2-3) earned the win for HBU, giving up four runs on seven hits and striking out three in 7.2 innings. Senior righthander
Michael Schulle picked up the save, entering the game as the Huskies held a 5-4 lead in the eighth, and gave up one run on one hit over the final 1.1 innings.
Cody Thompson (0-2) started and took the loss for Prairie View A&M, allowing four runs on just one hit and walking four in just 2/3 of an inning. Julio Batodano allowed five runs on two hits in one inning of relief for the Panthers.
Brooks doubled down the rightfield line to lead off the game, then later scored on a groundout by Benes to put Prairie View A&M ahead, 1-0.
Pfuntner led off the bottom of the first with a single up to centerfield, then senior shortstop
Collin Hetzler lined out to first. Arnst, Brown and Jones drew consecutive walks to tie the game. Junior centerfielder
Jake Gonzalez popped out for the second out, then senior designated hitter
Luke Clements drew a walk to put the Huskies ahead, 2-1. Foust lifted a fly ball to right, but Michael Long lost the ball in the sun and Foust ended up with a two-run double to give HBU a 4-1 lead.
Pfunter led off the second with single up the middle, Hetzler doubled down the rightfield line, then Brown singled through the left side to extend the Huskies' lead to 5-1. Jones walked, but HBU left the bases loaded.
Neither team scored over the next four innings, until Harris singled to lead off the seventh. Harris was retired at second, but Long beat out a potential double play ball. Oliver then doubled to the gap in rightcenter to cut the Huskies' lead to 5-2.
In the eighth, Schafer retired the first two batters but Cossey singled and Benes doubled down leftfield line. Harris drove them in with a double to centerfield to make the score, 5-4, but Schulle came in and got Sterling Smith to ground out to second to end the rally.
The Huskies put the game away by answering back with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Foust reached on an error and eventually scored on a balk. Arnst ripped a two-run triple to rightcenter, then scored on a balk. After Brown was hit by a pitch and Jones doubled to rightcenter, Gonzalez drove in the Huskies' final run with a sacrifice fly.
HBU returns to action when it faces No. 8 Texas A&M Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park in College Station, Texas.
