Hiba Kreidie anchored the HBU women's distance medley relay to the second school record in as many meets Friday as she covered the final 1600-meter leg in 5:12.0 to stop the clock at 12:23.85 on the first day of the Houston Indoor Invitational at Yeoman Field House.
Jessica Whitt ran the leadoff 1200 leg in 3:43.8 to put the Huskies in the front pack, and
Shanae Lawrence (400) and
Jamie Whitt (800) kept the quartet on record pace before Kreidie closed quickly to trim nearly 12 seconds off the previous best, set by the same squad two weeks ago, and place fifth overall.
Great West Conference cross country individual champion
Matt Perri handed off in the lead for the Huskies in the men's DMR with a 3:06.2 1200 carry. Freshman
David Hicks followed with an impressive 400 leg, and
Anthony Aguinaga ran one of the best races of his HBU career to clock 1:55.5 on the 800. Defending GWC indoor 5000 champ
Maximo Mendoza anchored the team to a 10:16.72 finish to take third.
Morgan Pressley, the 2011 GWC women's outdoor long jump champion, improved her season best to 5.51m/18-1 to place third and take over the yearly lead in the GWC rankings, while freshman
Michael Roberts was fifth in the men's long jump.
In other track action,
Brice Christian narrowly missed the men's school record in the 400, zipping to a 51.04, and
Zelda Abadom was the best finisher in the 400 for the HBU women with a 59.92 effort to take eighth.
Tramisha McGrew was fifth in the women's 200 with a 26.21.
Competition resumes at 9 am Saturday with the women's 20-pound weight throw.
