WSOC: Huskies Host Former SLC Rival Abilene Christian on Sunday

HCU is 3-1 all-time against the Wildcats at Sorrels Field

HOUSTON – The HCU women's soccer team keeps the non-conference schedule moving this Sunday, Sept. 8, afternoon when they host former Southland Conference foe Abilene Christian at Sorrels Field for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.

HCU (1-3-1) will have enjoyed a full week off from games, last playing on Saturday, Aug. 31. The Huskies played to a 1-1 draw with visiting UTEP after Emily Jaimes scored an equalizer in the 69th minute. Jaimes and Alexa Huerta are currently tied for the team lead with two goals each. In goal, freshman Emmy McKeon has started the last three matches and has a .684 save percentage while allowing two goals per game. She made a season-high six saves last weekend vs. UTEP.

The Wildcats (2-0-3) are unbeaten so far this season against a non-conference schedule made up entirely of common opponents with the Huskies this season. ACU played to a 0-0 draw with UTEP before going 1-0-2 against a trio of Southland Conference opponents and most recently defeated Prairie View A&M, 2-1, on Thursday. The Huskies face PVAMU in Prairie View, Texas on Sept. 20.

ACU's defense has been the story so far this season, holding opponents to just 38 total shot attempts through five matches. The Wildcats have outscored opponents by a cumulative margin of 4-2. Junior Lili Ross has played the lion's share of minutes in goal, allowing just two goals while totaling 14 saves.

Following Sunday's matchup, the Huskies will head to Austin, Texas for a matchup with the Texas Longhorns on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 7:00 p.m.
