HOUSTON – Senior Olivia Rossman staked HCU to a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute but visiting East Texas A&M pulled level in the second half as the two teams played out to a 1-1 draw on Thursday evening at Sorrels Field.
HCU (7-3-6, 3-0-4 SLC) got on the board as a result of the team's first real offensive opportunity with Isabella Dillow sending a shot into the area and on goal with an East Texas (3-7-4, 2-3-1 SLC) defender making the stop but the ball deflected to Rossman who sent it into the goal off her right foot to put the Huskies ahead. Paisley Barela added a shot on target in the first half while the HCU defense kept ET from putting a shot on goal among five total attempts in the half.
The lone shot on goal of the second half paid off for the Lions when Addison Ramirez sent a cross into the box where Allyson Reed rose up and put a header past Emmy McKeon and into the net to tie things up, 1-1, in the 62nd minute. The Lions out-shot the Huskies, 7-2, over the course of the second 45 minutes.
East Texas held a 12-6 advantage in shots but it was the Huskies with three shots on goal to the Lions' one.
Rossman's goal is her third of the season and first since Sept. 6. She has now had a goal involvement in five of the team's last six matches. Dillow, meanwhile, now stands at five assists this season with three of those coming in SLC competition.
The draw brings HCU's unbeaten streak to a school record 11 matches without suffering a defeat. The last time the Huskies lost a game was on Aug. 30 at SMU.
The Huskies will travel to Corpus Christi, Texas for a Sunday, Oct. 25, for a 12:00 p.m. SLC matchup with the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders.
