CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – HCU women's soccer begins the final three-match stretch of the regular season with a trip to take on the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders Sunday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer and Track & Field Stadium.
The Huskies (7-3-6, 3-0-4 SLC) are currently in third place, with 13 points, in the middle of a close-packed group that sees one through seven in the conference standings separated by just five points. Lamar sits atop the table with 16 points followed by UIW, with 15.
On Thursday, HCU played visiting East Texas A&M to a 1-1 draw with senior Olivia Rossman scoring the Huskies' goal with an assist from fellow senior Isabella Dillow. Rossman now has seven points in SLC play to rank tied for fourth, having scored once and receiving credit for a league-high five assists.
The Islanders (4-8-4, 1-5-2 SLC) are fighting to stay alive in the race to qualify for the SLC Tournament with five points. Though TAMUCC is in the midst of a four-match winless stretch, the Islanders own a 4-3-3 record at home this season. Their last win was a 1-0 home victory over Southeastern on Oct. 1.
Senior forward Katie Porter has been the primary scoring threat for the Islanders with seven goals on the season. No other player has scored more than twice. In goal, two keepers have split time but freshman Addie Brown has been the primary starter since late September. Brown is 2-5-2 in goal with a 1.62 goals against average and a .762 save percentage.
The Huskies own an 8-3-4 all-time record against the Islanders with a 3-2-2 mark on the island. Both of the last two meetings have ended in 0-0 draws.
HCU will return home for the team's final home game of the season next Sunday, Nov. 1, when they host Lamar at 3:30 p.m. at Sorrels Field.
