BSB: HBU Drops Series Finale to La Tech

Junior 1B Brennen Bales goes 2-for-4 for Huskies

RUSTON, La. – Three Louisiana Tech pitchers combined to hold HBU to four hits and struck out 10 as the Bulldogs claimed a 6-0 victory to sweep the non-conference baseball series Sunday afternoon at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
 
Junior first baseman Brennen Bales went 2-for-4, while junior shortstop Diego Davila went 1-for-3 with a walk for the Huskies (6-11).
 
Junior righthander Will Ripoll (1-2) allowed six runs, only three earned, on four hits with two strikeouts and three walks in 3.1 innings. Senior lefty Austin Spinney pitched 2.2 shutout innings and junior Morris Austin and senior Andrew Reitmeyer each tossed a scoreless frame.
 
Bryce Wallace went 2-for-4 with a run and Jorge Corona went 2-for-4 for the Bulldogs (11-5). Kyle Hasler went 1-for-4 and drove in two runs, while Taylor Young was 1-for-4 with a walk and scored twice.
 
Jarret Whorff (1-2) earned the win, holding the Huskies to three hits with five strikeouts and three walks in five innings. Jackson Lancaster allowed a hit and struck out three in two innings and Kyle Crigger did not allow a hit, striking out two and walking two over the last two innings.
 
La Tech scored a pair in the first on Hasler's two-run single, then took advantage of two HBU errors to put together a four-run fourth.
 
The Huskies return home to face UTSA Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Husky Field, before traveling for a three-game series against Michigan State next weekend in East Lansing.
