THIBODAUX, LA – The HBU women's basketball team will complete their tour of Louisiana this weekend when they face off with the Nicholls Colonels at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon inside of Stopher Gym. The game will be streamed live on Youtube and a play-by-play call from Garrett Jones can be found on HBUHuskies.com.
HBU (11-9, 7-2 SLC) had an off night on Thursday, but there was other action across the Southland Conference. Southeastern lost to TAMCC, dropping their second game in a row, currently sitting in second place, just a half-game ahead of the Huskies, in the conference standings. It is their first time not being the top seed all season.
The Huskies are riding high after delivering the Lady Lions their first loss of the season last Saturday.
Enya Maguire and
N'Denasija Collins lead the Huskies on offense in that one, combining for 28 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists.
With just a handful of games left on the schedule,
Timia Jefferson leads the Huskies in scoring with 13.0 points-per-game. Collins follows at 11.0 per game and Julia Vujakovic adds 9.2 per contest. Collins leads the team in shooting percentage, dropping in 45.8 of her shots from the field.
Kennedy Wilson leads in long distance shooting, making 39.3 percent of her shots.
Marilyn Nzoiwu and Collins are neck and neck for the rebound lead, averaging 6.7 and 7.2 respectively.
Nicholls (4-16, 2-7 SLC) is coming off of three straight Southland Conference contests, the most recent coming against McNeese. Chelsea Cain leads the team in scoring with 15.4 points per game, while Chyna Allen drops in 13 per game.
The Huskies downed the Colonel in Sharp Gym earlier in the season, 67-58. In that game, Jefferson dropped a game high 24 points while Wilson added 18 on just six shot attempts while shooting a perfect 9-9 from the charity stripe.
Abbey Sutherland poured in her season high of 11 points and added six rebounds and three assists.
HBU has beaten Nicholls three games in a row, but the Colonels have the advantage in overall matchups, 9-5 dating back to 2013-14.
The Huskies return home following this three game road trip, to face off with UIW and TAMCC in Sharp Gym on Thursday and Saturday respectively.
