LUBBOCK, Texas – Tenth-ranked Texas Tech hit six home runs, scoring eight runs in the second inning and seven more in the third en route to an 18-3 win over HBU in the non-conference baseball series opener Friday afternoon at Rip Griffin Park.
Senior rightfielder
Brandon Bena went 1-for-2, was hit by a pitch, drove in a run and scored, while senior third baseman
Nathan Soriano went 2-for-4 for the Huskies (1-3). Senior centerfielder
Chase Talbot also singled and scored, while junior first baseman
Jake Miller also singled.
Sophomore righthander
Tyler Zarella (0-1) took the loss, allowing 11 runs on 13 hits in 2.1 innings. Senior lefthander
Brent Pronger gave up seven runs, six earned, on eight hits in 2.2 innings.
Jace Jung went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs, while Cole Stilwell went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and four RBIs for the Red Raiders (1-3). Nate Rombach went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, three RBIs and scored three runs and Cal Conley went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, drove in two and scored three times.
Brandon Birdsell (1-0) picked up the win, allowing three runs on five hits in 4.1 innings.
The series continues with a 2 p.m. first pitch Saturday, followed by a 1 p.m. start for Sunday's finale.
