ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – The HBU women's basketball team hits the road and heads west to face off with the New Mexico Lobos in The Pit Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m., the start of a three game road trip.
The HBU Huskies (3-1) are coming off of three consecutive home wins by at least 23 points against St. Thomas (TX), Texas Wesleyan, and Hartford. HBU is currently tied for the lead atop the Southland Conference standings with Northwestern.
Timia Jefferson broke the school record for made free throws in a game with 13 (13-13) en route to a season high scoring output of 23 points against Hartford.
N'Denasija Collins also had a big week, with a 13 point seven rebound game against the Hawks and a seven point and a career high 14 rebound game against the Texas Wesleyan Rams.
On the season,
Julija Vujakovic averages 11 points per game for the Huskies while shooting .412 from distance while
Enya Maguire,
Kennedy Wilson, and Collins each average just over eight points per game.
Abbey Sutherland leads the Huskies in rebounds per game with 4.5. Vujakovic leads the Huskies in steals with eight,
Lauryn Mapusua follows with seven, and Jefferson, Maguire and Collins have each added six.
Defensively HBU is holding their opponents to just 56.3 points per game with a .319 field goal percentage. Their three point defense is even better, holding opponents to just a .213 percentage while forcing 24.8 turnovers per game.
The New Mexico Lobos (3-1) are coming off of a home win against Prairie View A&M and a road loss against at the University of Houston. The Lobos are led by Shaiquel McGruder, who averages 19 points per game and Antonia Anderson who averages 14 points per game. Viane Cumber comes off the bench for the Lobos and has the highest three point percentage (of players who have taken at least 10 3PA) for the Lobos, shooting .400 percent.
Defensively the Lobos are holding opponents to just 55 points per game on .309 field goal percentage. Opponents are shooting a .294 percentage from long range and the Lobos force 19 turnovers per game.
The Huskies will stay on the road after Thanksgiving when they participate in the GCU Women's Basketball Classic where they will face Montana on Friday and GCU on Saturday in Phoenix, Arizona.
