Christos Zachariou and sophomore
Scott Boon were selected to the Men's Track & Field All-Academic Team, as voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic advisors and announced by the league office Tuesday.
Thomlinson earned a 3.26 GPA as an interdisciplinary studies major. The Pearland, Texas, native earned the silver medal in the weight throw at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships with a mark of 17.60 meters/57-9. She set the school record in the event earlier in the season with a mark of 17.99/59-0.25 at the Texas A&M Invitaitonal. Thomlinson also holds the school record outdoors in the hammer with a mark of 50.35 meters/165-2.
Smith earned her second-straight all-academic team nod, earning a 3.97 GPA as a kinesiology major, and was voted HBU's Jan Edds Female Athlete of the Year earlier this spring. The Wailuku, Hawai'i, native captured the gold medal in the pentathlon at the Indoor Conference Championships. Smith broke the program record with 3,896 points and set personal bests in the high jump, shot put, long jump and 800 meters. She also added three more points for the Huskies by finishing sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.79. Smith also holds the school record outdoors in the pentathlon with 5,040 points at last year's outdoor conference championship.
Zachariou posted a 3.96 GPA as a psychology major and claimed his second all-academic accolade. The Limassol, Cyprus, native took silver in the 800 meters at the indoor conference championships with a personal-best time of 1:53.11.
Boon earned a 3.76 GPA as an international business major. The Dronten, The Netherlands, native won the silver medal in the hepthathlon at the indoor conference championships with a total of 5,286 points, 39 behind the leader. On the final day, he set personal bests in the 60-meter hurdles and the 1,000 meters, which he won with a time of 2:44.22. Boon also holds the school record in the outdoor pole vault with a mark of 4.75 meters/15-7 at last year's outdoor championships.
