HUNTSVILLE, Texas - HBU hits the road to battle defending Southland Conference regular-season champion Sam Houston State in the league-opening series Friday through Sunday at Don Sanders Stadium. The Husky Sports Network audio broadcasts with Russ Reneau will be available on HBUHuskies.com.
 
The Huskies (3-10, 0-0 SLC) are expected to send junior lefthander Austin Spinney, Southland strikeout leader senior righthander Kyle Gruller and senior lefthander Solomon Klimeck to the mound.
 
Senior first baseman Johnny Gonzales leads the HBU offense, hitting .392 with six doubles, two triples, a home run, eight RBIs and seven runs, while junior catcher Todd Jackson is hitting .324 with two doubles, a home run, three RBIs and four runs. Senior infielder Cal Clark is hitting .300 with six runs, senior outfielder Ryne Edmondson is hitting .296 with three doubles, five RBIs and three runs and senior shortstop Nathan Soriano is hitting .273 with a home run, a triple, a double, seven RBIs and five runs.
 
The Bearkats (6-5, 0-0) will likely counter with righthander Tyler Davis, lefthander Dominic Robinson and righty Caleb Cannon.
 
Jack Rogers is hitting .372 with four doubles, a triple, a home run, 12 RBIs and nine runs, whiel Christian Smith is hitting .324 with five doubles, a triple, eight RBIs and five runs for SHSU. Bryce Holmes is batting .297 with a pair of doubles and six RBIs, while Colton Cowser is hitting .262 with three doubles, a home run, four RBIs and 13 runs.
 
The Huskies return to Husky Field for a four-game homestand and seven of their next eight, beginning with a Tuesday non-conference matchup with league rival Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, followed by a three-game Southland set against Stephen F. Austin Friday through Sunday.
