RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Cal Baptist spotted starter Bryan Pope a 6-0 lead and he was perfect through five innings as the Lancers claimed the non-conference baseball series opener over HBU, 18-2, Friday night at Totman Stadiium.
Senior centerfielder
Chase Talbot provided all of the offense for the Huskies (2-8) with a two-run home run. Junior
Austin Spinney pinch hit and delivered a single for the only other hit.
Senior lefthander
Solomon Klimeck (0-2) took the loss, giving up six runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in five innings. Three relievers combined to give up 12 runs on 10 hits in three innings.
Ulises Caballero went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and two runs, while CJ Masciel went 2-for-3 with a triple, two walks, two RBIs and four runs for the Lancers (3-5). Nick Plaia went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run, and Damon Keith went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs. Jeff Bruyntjens and Chad Castillo also drove in two runs each.
Pope (2-1) allowed two runs, one earned, on one hit with eight strikeouts and no walks in seven innings. He was perfect through 5.1 innings, but senior shortstop
Nathan Soriano reached on an error and Talbot followed with his two-run blast.
