BSB: HBU Cruises Past Prairie View A&M, 10-3

Junior 2B Nathan Soriano goes 3-for-4 with a double, RBI, three runs for Huskies



HOUSTON - HBU scored four two-out runs in the bottom of the first, building up an early lead and coasting to a 10-3 victory over Prairie View A&M in non-conference baseball Tuesday afternoon at Husky Field.

Junior second baseman Nathan Soriano went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and scored three times, while junior leftfielder Ryne Edmondson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs for the Huskies (6-18). Sophomore catcher Jeremy Simon went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, junior centerfielder Chase Talbot went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and scored a run and senior designated hitter Anthony Jones was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. Junior rightfielder Brandon Bena went 2-for-3 with a double and scored twice.

Junior lefthander Solomon Klimeck (1-0) picked up the win, allowing one run on four hits with three strikeouts and a walk in four innings. John Gillett, Chris Burns, Brent Pronger and Jacob Coats each tossed a scoreless inning.

Brian Williams went 3-for-4 and Demarie Smith went 2-for-3 for the Panthers (6-18). Daniel Lingua went 2-for-5, Alex Martinez homered and drove in a pair and Tyler Gordon went 1-for-4 with a walk and scored twice.

Lorenzo Hardit (0-2) took the loss, giving up seven runs on five hits in two innings. Jerson Herdit allowed three runs on nine hits in five innings of relief for PVAMU.

Jones led off the first with a single, then Bena drew a two-out walk and stole second. Edmondson delivered a two-run single to left, then Soriano and Simon came through with back-to-back RBI singles for a 4-0 lead.

Talbot led off the second with a double and stole third, then scored when Jones reached on a fielder's choice.

Gordon walked to lead off the third, then went to third on a hit-and-run groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly by Dalton Horner.

The Huskies answered with three in the bottom half, getting a sacrifice fly by Simon and RBI singles by Talbot and Jones to extend the lead to 8-1.

Junior third baseman Trent Franson doubled to lead off the fourth and scored when he stole third and came home on a wild pitch.

Martinez's two-run homer to left in the seventh cut HBU's lead to 9-3, but the Huskies got one back in the bottom of the inning on Soriano and Simon's back-to-back doubles.

The Huskies return to Southland Conference play when they host Northwestern State in a three-game series Friday through Sunday at Husky Field.
