FRISCO, Texas – HBU senior middle blocker
Kayla Davenport has been chosen to the Preseason Southland All-Conference First Team, as voted on by the league's head coaches and announced by the league office Thursday.
A native of Columbus, Texas, Davenport ranked sixth in the Southland with 1.07 blocks per set and seventh with a .310 hitting percentage in 2017. She started all 31 matches, played in 109 sets, totaling 146 kills, an average of 1.34 per set, and posted 117 total blocks (19 solo).
Davenport is one of three seniors for HBU, along with setter
Madison O'Brien and middle blocker
Courtney Kankel, and is one of three starters returning with O'Brien and sophomore right side
Ashtyn Richey.
The Huskies open the 2018 season at home, hosting the Marriott Houston Westchase Invitational against Prairie View A&M, Louisiana Tech and UT Rio Grande Valley Friday and Saturday, Aug. 24 and 25 at Sharp Gym.
