VB: Huskies Sweep East Texas A&M to Open Southland Play

Houston Christian takes a 3–0 road victory behind strong performances from Joya Euhus and Allana Archie

COMMERCE, Texas – The volleyball team opened its Southland Conference season with a 3–0 sweep at East Texas A&M on Thursday night in Commerce, Texas. The Huskies improved to 6-8 overall and 1-0 in conference play, taking the sets 25-21, 25-23, and 25-17. HCU showed balanced offensive firepower and solid defense, controlling the match from start to finish.

In the first set, the Huskies (6-8,1-0 ) jumped out to an early lead, with Joya Euhus and Allana Archie producing key kills while Hannah Redrow contributed both kills and a block. Allana Archie also added a service ace to help HCU maintain a narrow edge. The Huskies hit .289 as a team and forced East Texas A&M into four attack errors, while Bianca Byerly's backcourt defense began setting the tone with consistent digs.

The second set was closely contested, with both teams trading points in the early stages. HCU leaned on Peyton Fadal's precise setting, delivering 43 assists that created opportunities for the front row. Euhus and Archie again led the Huskies' attack, while Cassidy Drapela added two blocks to disrupt ETAMU at the net. Critical errors by the Lady Lions in the closing points allowed the Huskies to pull ahead, finishing the set with a .316 hitting percentage.

Houston Christian dominated the third set with strong play on both offense and defense. The Huskies hit .289 and forced ETAMU into six attack errors, while Redrow and Drapela contributed on the block. Euhus and Archie kept the Huskies in control with key kills, and Bianca Byerly's digging helped limit ETAMU's scoring opportunities. Anna Melgren added a service ace to maintain momentum, and HCU closed out the match decisively at 25-17.

The Huskies will continue Southland Conference play on Saturday at 1 p.m., traveling to face Northwestern State in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
